About the play:
Last Gas by John Cariani
Nat Paradis is a Red Sox-loving part-time dad who manages Paradis’ Last Convienient Store, the last convenient place to get gas – or anything – before the Canadian border to the north and the North Maine Woods to the west. When an old flame returns to town, Nat gets a chance to rekindle a romance he gave up on years ago. But sparks fly as he’s forced to choose between new love and old. Last Gas takes a hilarious and heartbreakingly hard look at love lost and found and what it means to “get back to happy.” From the writer of Almost, Maine – Last Gas is, “Peppered with poignant characters and sharp writing…” and “...a full tank of unfulfilled desires – very funny and surprisingly thought-provoking.”
Available Roles:
Nat Paradis – Male – 35 to 45
Charming, but self-conscious. Amiable, but sensitive and temperamental. A master at hiding (from himself, from other people, even in plain sight) and makes himself small whenever possible. A creature of habit. Searching…
Troy Paradis-Pulcifer – Male – 16 to 20
Nat’s son. Smart, understanding, substantial. Quietly ambitious. Athletic, but not a jock. Loving and more mature than he seems at first introduction. Even so, he’s still a teenager.
Dwight Paradis – Male – 65 to 75
Nat’s father. Larger-than-life and loves a good time. Sociable but rough around the edges and set in his ways. A talker, not a listener. Values actions over feelings. Caring, but inflexible.
Guy Gagnon – Male – 35 to 45
Nat’s best friend. Smarter than he seems. Loyal, intuitive, and self-assured. Clever and observant with a funny-guy facade. Ready for the next big thing.
Cherry-Tracy Pulcifer – Female 35 - 50
Troy’s mother. Full of life. Hard-working, protective, and hyper-competent. She’s been a single mom a long time. Loving and understanding but always no-nonsense. Sharp and funny.
Lurene Lagassey Soloway – Female 35 - 45
A prodigal friend. Soft but playing defense. Weary but cheerful. Grieving for a path not taken. Achingly lonely but not hopeless. Unfulfilled but seeking joy. Neither here nor there.
